On September 12, 1940, an 18-year-early Frenchman called Marcel Ravidat, who was searching for his pet dog, discovered what we now know as the Lascaux Cave, home to wall paintings going on to 17,300 years archaic. In 1979, the early site was accrual to the list of Unesco World Heritage Sites. The caves speedily became a popular tourist destination, but are now closed to visitors including scientists in the midst of concerns the paintings are swine damaged.
